Classics Challenge 2010

I decided to participate in a reading challenge I found online.  Check it out here.

I am going to do the Classic Snack plus the bonus.  So I have to read 4 classic novels and a 5th future classic.  The future classic is based on a list made by the participants.  The time period to complete this challenge is April 1st-October 31st 2010.

I decided to go with books I already have on my bookshelf to save money and possible late fees at the library.  Here is the list I have come up with:

1. Watership Down- Richard Adams
2. Sometimes a Great Notion- Ken Kesey
3. A Brave New World- Aldous Huxley
4. The Scarlet Letter- Nathaniel Hawthorne

For my bonus book I chose Princess Bride- William Goldman.  I will either have to buy this book or get it from the library since I don't have it.  When I saw this on the list I knew I had to read it!

  1. Hey Katy--thanks for joining the Classics Challenge! From your list I've only read Brave New World and Scarlet Letter but enjoyed both (and they're so different!). I haven't read Princess Bride but it's hands down my favorite movie.

Every month I'll put up a Mister Linky so you can come back and post your thoughts on the book you read (if you desire). Is this your first online reading challenge?

  2. This is my first online reading challenge. I am really looking forward to this since I have been meaning to read this books for a long time. I have started Scarlet Letter twice but got distract (usually starting another book!). I am usually reading a few at a time.

  3. I challenged myself to start reading the classics awhile back because I wasn't able to go to school for awhile, but I wanted to still feel like I was educating myself. I think I'll have to join in the fun. I was surprised how much these ultra-classics have influenced our culture.
